I was fortunate enough to stumble upon the surreal world of beekeeping. I studied beekeeping and bee genetics in south of France, and then worked as a beekeeper for two seasons. The workload is intense but the reward is this elemental communion with nature. When you start understanding how the bees work you start getting an insight on the mechanisms of nature itself. You see, bees are not whole without the flowers, it is one of the most beautiful examples of symbiosis I have witnessed to this day. The people involved are just as amazing as the bees themselves. I documented everything from queen breeding, to the feeding of the hives, to the nights spent in the fields, to the loading of the hives for the "transhumance". You will also see how "nougat" is produced in Sault. The bright orange pollen is harvested by the bees from the Cistus plant. After my two seasons in the field I put together a small coffee table book with most of these pictures. You can have a preview by clicking below.
